How To Care For Your New Mattress.

Taking Care Of Your Mattress Is Important!

Buying a new mattress takes time, effort and energy. When your new mattress finally arrives, don’t just put it on your bed and forget it. Start taking care of it immediately so that it will last you a long time and serve you well. Take good care of your new mattress. A quality mattress should last up to ten years if you take proper care of it. If you want to get the most use possible out of your new bed, here are some tips for you.

Allow Your Mattress To Breathe

After the arrival of your new mattress,  the first thing you should do is give it some air. Remove the plastic wrapping.  After the removal of the plastic,  you will notice a slight odour. Don’t worry; this is only from the time it has spent wrapped in plastic. Letting it breath will release any trapped gases, and after  Ct people think of mattress care, the first thing that comes to mind is probably rotating it. Sleeping in the same place every night will leave an impression in that spot. Our “spot” needs time to recover if we do not want the bed to sag. Flipping and rotating your mattress encourages it to wear more evenly. You may need a new mattress sooner than you expected if you avoid doing this.

New mattresses need time to be “broken in”. Much like new shoes. Although the time this takes can vary, mattresses generally need about two to four weeks. After that, it is time to start rotating your mattress. A new mattress should be rotated and flipped on a regular basis. Try to do it once every two weeks or once a month for the first three months.

Rotate your double-sided mattresses regularly: Rest Assured Weight Master Mattress

Double-sided mattresses are also known as dual-sided mattresses. A well known double-sided mattress is the Rest Assured Weight Master Mattress. The Mattress Warehouse stocks the Rest Assured Weight Master Mattress. Double-sided mattresses have a supportive core. Comfort layers surround the supportive core.  by  Manufacturers recommend flipping and rotating your mattress on a regular basis.

The consensus is to flip the mattress once every three months. Turning and flipping your mattress can be quite a chore.  However, this is an essential chore, and it will add to the life span of your mattress. It is a good idea to turn this chore into a household event. Get everyone to help with each bed. Time spent awkwardly manoeuvring your giant cubes of fluff will decrease significantly. Plus it is the perfect opportunity for lots of laughs at the funny faces pulled and sounds made.

Single-Sided Mattresses: Kooi, Sealy Posturepedic

To make our busy lives more comfortable, most newer mattresses have only one “right side up”. No-flip mattresses are built from their base up. Starting with a supportive layer at the base, comfort layers are then layered on top. All you need to do is rotate these end to end. No more awkward flipping necessary. Single sided mattresses can be put on the same schedule as double-sided mattresses. Rotate it once every three months, and you are good to go!

Remember also to rotate (but never flip) your box spring. Do this once every six months. If you are not sure if yours needs to be turned, check with the store or consult your warranty. Regular rotating will prolong the life of your bed and ensure that you always have an even surface to sleep on.

Protect your new mattress, purchase a good quality mattress protector.

take care not to spill coffee on your new mattress

All people sweat while they sleep. Some people sweat up to 250 grams of water into their mattress every night. Over time, the moisture your mattress soaks up can attract dust mites. In a few years or in as short as a few months, your new mattress will absorb litres of sweat. By then it may house millions of dust mites.

Sadly, we cannot just toss our mattress into the washer. Thankfully, using a mattress protector will keep most of the sweat from reaching your mattress. Having a waterproof, washable mattress protector will also put your mind at ease. You won’t have to worry about spills and stains damaging your mattress, keeping it looking as good as new. Using a good mattress protector will also protect you from allergens and bedbugs.

A quality mattress protector will add an extra layer of padding to amp up your level of comfort.

Keep Your New Mattress Clean And Dry

Vacuuming your mattress might not seem like the most obvious thing to do. However, you should. Regularly vacuuming your mattress will prevent dust from settling into the bed. Doing this will also reduce the number of dust mites in your bed. Vacuum your bed using your vacuum’s upholstery attachment every time you rotate it.

Ideally, it would help if you covered your mattress with a waterproof, washable protector. If you do not have one, you must treat a spill or stain as quickly as you can. Dab at the spill or stain with warm soapy water. Try not to wet the mattress any more than you need to. Moisture can promote the growth of mould. Use a hair dryer on its lowest setting if you want to speed up the drying process. Let your mattress air in the sun if possible, and make sure it is one hundred percent dry before making the bed.

Never Jump On Your Mattress

take care not to jump on your mattress

Jumping around on a bed is an age-old pleasure. Children all around the world will spend hours leaping about and squealing if they are allowed. However, not only is this dangerous for the person jumping, it also poses a danger to the bed. Jumping about can damage the coils and fibre within a mattress and possible ruin the bedframe. Whatever your age may be, it is best to leave the monkeying around for the trampoline.

Avoid Having a Favourite Sitting Spot

By all means, keep your side of the bed and your favourite seat at the table or couch. However, it is best to avoid sitting in the same place every time you sit on the edge of your mattress. Continuously sitting in the same spot can make your mattress lose its structure. You may end up needing to replace it prematurely if you play favourites. Next time you sit down to tie your laces, remember to alternate between different spots.

Special Note For Memory Foam Mattresses:

Keep Away From Heat

Memory foam contours to your unique body shape wonderfully. Being a heat-sensitive material is what gives it this ability. For this reason, it is best to keep things that give off much heat away from your memory foam mattress.

Avoid The Use Of Electric Blankets

The high levels of heat that electric blankets emit will be detrimental to the structure of the foam. Ultimately negatively influencing the performance of the foam and shortening its lifespan.

A good mattress is an investment in your health. Sleep quality plays a huge role in your physical and mental health. The better the condition your mattress is in, the better you will sleep. Taking good care of your mattress will be worth it in the long run. After all, who wants to buy a new mattress every year? Certainly not you!
