Have You Heard about the Mattress in a Box Trend?

Author imageThe Mattress Warehouse

Sleeping on the right mattress is essential for your continued well being. Therefore it follows that you should do your homework before buying a new one. Back in the day that would mean going from bed shop to bed shop to lie around on mattresses all weekend, hoping you’d find one that is comfortable for both you and your partner. But with global pandemics, lockdowns and the simple convenience of shopping online, that is no longer the case. Now you can read online reviews and guides (like this one) and make an informed decision about your next mattress. And did you know that some of those mattresses get shipped to your door, rolled up and in a box? That’s right, folks! Allow The Mattress Warehouse to tell you all about it. Read on.

What is a bed or mattress in a box?

Well, it is exactly what the name says. It is a mattress that comes in a box. However, the box isn’t as large (or larger) than the specific mattress inside of it. You see, because of some serious advances in sleep technology, foam mattresses that come in boxes are compressible. In fact, for their final stress test, they are compressed, rolled up and stuffed into a relatively small (or at least convenient to handle) box. And this is the box that will arrive at your door, should you decide to buy a mattress in a box.

How convenient, you might ask? Just think back to the last time you had to move a double bed mattress. It was hard and awkward work, wasn’t it? Moving around heavy objects with surface areas in excess of 1.9 x 1.4m usually are. A bed in a box is much easier to handle, seeing as the box is usually 1.9 x 0.3 x 0.3 m. You can most likely handle that on your own without getting a backache. So yes, a bed in a box is more convenient to handle than a traditional mattress.

Furthermore, you can buy this kind of bed without ever setting foot outside of your house. With accurate user and product reviews available online, you can do all of the research you need before buying your mattress in a box. What’s more, if you are unhappy with the mattress, you get a 100 trial period to test it out. If you are not happy with it, you can send it back and get a full refund (Ts&Cs always apply).

Is it easy to set up? How does this work?

Yes, it is super easy to set up your mattress in a box. But before we get into that, let’s walk you through the manufacturing process quickly. These foam mattresses are made of various layers of memory- and pure foam. Depending on the comfort level (how soft or firm) of your mattress, the layers of foam may vary. Once all of the layers and the mattress cover has been assembled, the mattresses are compressed, rolled and packaged into compact boxes.

The Setup

Setting up your bedroom has never been as easy as it is with a bed in a box

After receiving your bed in a box, take it to your bedroom and slide it out of the box. Place the rolled-up mattress on your bed base and remove the first layer of protective plastic. You should now be able to unroll the mattress. After unrolling and aligning the mattress with the bed base, remove the final layer of protective plastic. The mattress will start expanding after you remove the plastic and should be ready to sleep on within 24 hours after you’ve set it up.
