[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Mattresses and bed bases. Pillows and sheets. There are so many things that contribute to a great bed that it is difficult to single out which is the best of them all. We spend a third of our lives sleeping, hopefully comfortably, on our beds. So it is worth taking the time and making a real effort to uncover what makes the perfect bed.

Buying bed linen can be the ideal time to remake, or rather re-envision what it is that you want your bedroom to represent. A simple change of the colour and the pattern of your duvet cover can quickly make your bedroom look different to what it was before.

Bed linen can easily be bought online, and if you are looking for something that isn’t too flashy but will still do the job, at The Mattress Warehouse, we have a wide selection of high-thread count linen. Buying bed linen online is a great option. Because it is so convenient. Browse, click, order and pay. Just like that, and you can have your bed linen with you in just about no time at all.

Even if you are shopping online, there is always information that you can use to ensure that you buy the bed linen you actually want. And when you have the right bed linen, as well as a great mattress you are definitely going to improve your sleep experience.

So, how do you go about finding great bed linen?

To give you the complete guide to buying bed linen, we are going to answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

What is thread count? What does it refer to?

There is always a lot of talk around thread count and its importance. It can quickly become very confusing and it could even leave you doubting whether or not you are buying the right linen. While there is some truth in certain thread counts being better quality than others, it’s not all about the thread count.

But we are going completely off topic here. Thread count refers to the number of threads in a square inch of fabric. The right combination of threads will provide the perfect amount of support as well as comfort. Some say the higher the thread count the better, but that is not necessarily the case with all linen.

Does a high thread count mean better quality?

Just as we mentioned before, the answer to this is that it is not always the case. Depending on the type of material being used to make the sheet. If you have a high thread count in an already tight fabric, it will make the linen quite uncomfortable. Most times, however, you probably won’t be able to notice the difference but the latest trends show that people want to have higher thread count sheets. If you are one of those looking for sheets that have a higher thread count, there is one thing to keep in mind, and that is maintenance. High thread count sheets need to be ironed after being washed, to avoid them taking on a crinkled, unkempt appearance.

Is there more to it than numbers?

While thread count is one thing to keep in mind, the other factor you need to know about is the weave. There are different types of weaves that you might encounter:

  1. The Oxford Weave: This is a basket weave and generally it can be a little rougher so fibres are used to smooth out the sheet and make it crisp.
  2. The Sateen Weave: Not to be confused with satin, the Sateen Weave is far more lustrous than the Oxford Weave and it has far finer threads.
  3. Jacquard Weave: Used for both mattresses and linens, the Jacquard Weave is a fairly common weave and one that is more matt than the Sateen. This weave is also soft and crisp.
  4. Flannelette Weave: This weave is made from a spun yarn that is brushed from both sides to create the right texture and to retain warmth.

Many people prefer to use a flannelette sheet as a mattress protector, with a cotton sheet on top of it to provide a little more comfort. This is an especially good idea for the winter months when you are looking to add some extra warmth to your bed but you don’t want too many heavy blankets and sheets on top of you.

About Silk Sheets

The movies might make you think that having silk sheets is the way to go, but the reality is that it all comes down to preference. Sleep is unique to each of us and although the silk sheets might look amazing, and super classy, you might not like actually sleeping on them. That said, silk sheets are great for when you prefer sheets which are capable of keeping the temperature cool. While flannelette can keep you warm, silk sheets have the opposite effect. The downside is, should you sweat in the night, it won’t be absorbed into the sheets. Again, for some this a good thing, as some will tell you that silk sheets have anti-ageing properties because the moisture is not absorbed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”white”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Buy your linen online from The Mattress Warehouse or visit one of our stores to find out more.” h4=”And remember, when you take proper care of your linen, you will get many years of great use out of them. ” txt_align=”center” color=”pink”]We also have a wide selection of beds for sale in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Nelspruit and Polokwane.
