Coming out of an isolated and dreary winter, South Africa is ready for spring (and decor change)! And after being confined to your house for so long, why not redo some of the rooms, like the bedroom? After all, you spend a lot of time there, so you might as well make it look special. Also, you don’t have to break the bank while doing it. The Mattress Warehouse has put together some tips on how you can make use of wooden bed frames or steel bed frames to stay current with bedroom trends.
Let’s be honest here. Whether you are looking to perfect the “classic farmhouse” look or leaning towards a more “rustic” style, there’s nothing better than a good ol’ wooden bed frame to finish the picture! Don’t believe us? Just keep reading and see for yourself.
On the other hand, if you prefer steel over wooden beds, you can still create a stunning, personalized bedroom. As “modern industrial” and “vintage” bedrooms are making a big comeback going into spring and 2021, getting a solid steel bed frame might be exactly what you need for your bedroom revamp.
However, which one is the winner between wooden or steel bed frames?
It all depends on what you prefer, really.
But to make your choice easier, we created a quick pro’s and con’s list for wooden beds and steel beds:

Even though these bedroom trends have been around for some time, they are gaining an increased following as we near the end of 2020.
Combining old farmhouse (or Cottage) style decor with modern elements, a farmhouse bedroom typically contains a big, homey bed and basic wooden furniture that is complimented by light colours. A touch of wood against the walls or ceiling just adds that farmhouse feel to the room.
Here are some examples of the farmhouse bedroom style.
With its massive steel bed, light coloured walls and long wooden dresser that looks like it came directly from my grandmothers farm kitchen, this room is such a great example of what a farmhouse bedroom could be.
Light, earthy colours and rugged wooden farm doors that go well with the wooden floorboards gives this room a beautiful farmhouse finish. Add some old farm implements (albeit a bit modernized) as decor to complete the look.
If you like spending time in the garage or workshop, this style is for you! With its unique style where some of the construction materials are left on display, an industrial bedroom screams out for attention!
Take a look:
Look at how that simple steel bed frame complements the raw bricks and copper piping on the wall. If you really want to go all-out industrial, add some old saw blades and workshop tools to the walls.
The whitewashed brick wall and exposed water pipe give this bedroom an industrial vibe. And to top it all off, the elegant wooden bed frame adds a sense of simplicity.
*Tip: Adding indoor plants to your bedroom is a great idea, especially now that we are coming into spring. Go check out our list of great indoor plants here.
Some people confuse rustic and farmhouse style bedrooms. And although the two are similar in ways, there are also some definite differences.
A rustic bedroom design revolves around simplicity – keeping the colours natural, the decor to a minimum and using old things to complete the look.
Here are some ideas to indicate what a rustic bedroom should be like.
Simple lines and colours are all that you need to complete the rustic bedroom look. Note how the wooden bed frame still shows that natural grain. Isn’t it beautiful? Now add an elegant bedside pedestal to the mix and you have it! A simplistic, rustic bedroom.
Re-using wooden planks to create an almost rugged-looking room, coupled with an old wrought iron bed frame completes that rustic feeling of re-purposed material and simple design.
Containing ornately carved wooden headboards (or curled iron beds) and quilts, vintage bedrooms are making a huge comeback! Throw in an extravagant light and a couple of distressed wood furniture pieces to complete the look.
It goes something like this:
With its whitewashed floorboards, turquoise wooden bed frame and ornate chandelier, this room is the perfect example of a vintage room. The tasselled bedlamps also add to the vibe.
Look at that curled steel bed frame! It just screams out “vintage”, doesn’t it? And to complete the look, there are some quilted pillows on the bed and an old style still on the wall. And of course the washed out bedstand…
All of our examples made use of either a steel or wooden bed frame.
So now that you have some ideas on how to spice up your bedroom for spring, go and take a look at our wide selection of wooden bed frames or steel bed frames! We can help you to achieve that dreamy new look that you’re after.
