What if you could become a morning person?

Well, would you do it? Would you want to make that transformation?

We all know that one person who is grumpy in the morning no matter what. Hey! Perhaps you are that person. Mornings can be tough, and not all of us are little rays of sunshine waiting to jump out of bed and start the day.

It’s not just about your mood or attitude either. Waking up earlier and being happy about it can be the start of some good change. I have personally never been a morning person. If I had the working world my way, the days would start leisurely, without an alarm, without a hurry and without the fuss. The days would still be productive, I would just eliminate the need for a set 8 to 5 pm work day.

But this is not likely to change just because I’ve blogged about it. And days can be started slowly when you have had an early night in a comfortable bed. Sometimes, when you are completely well rested, the mornings don’t seem like such a drag. Instead, they are good days. The kind you can’t wait to start.

I’m sort of getting off topic here. Being a jolly, up early in the morning kind of person is actually something you can aspire to. You read that right. You can become a morning person, even after years of fighting the need to get out of bed early. And you might want to be that kind of person because they do seem to add a few extra hours to their days.

The steps to becoming a morning person

Warning: becoming a morning person will not necessarily make you instantly happy about being up early.

Make a plan and stick to it

In an age of instant everything, sticking to goals and plans is a kind of commitment few have. But, if you want this lifestyle, you have to commit to a morning routine (a set of annoying plans that will leave you feeling fabulous, so just do it!)

The way that you start your day is generally what will set the tone for the rest of your day. So start the day on a positive note. Yoga or meditation is considered to be the most relaxing way to begin any day. Not only do these activities prepare your body physically, but they also prepare your mind for the day ahead. For some, getting into a regime will be a breeze. But we all know that those who are not morning people are the worst when it comes to a morning regime. Don’t be hard on yourself if it takes a few weeks to get into the groove of things.

Just be sure that by day 30, you have some progress to show for your new you plans.

Toss the dark curtains

I have dark curtains. And I love them. Do you know why? I’ll tell you. They keep the room dark. No morning sun is going to surprise me when I’m in no mood to start the day. But this is counterintuitive to being a morning person. And I have decided the dark curtains should go if I ever have the hope of springing out of bed at dawn (and by dawn I mean 7 am …just kidding).

You need to be up early to make this change work. With the combination of a comfortable bed and dark curtains, you’ll never master the art of transformation. So consider lighter curtains.

Allow yourself to wake up

Sounds like a stupid point right? Allow yourself to wake up. What I mean is allow yourself to slowly adjust to the state of being awake, before you rush to jump-start your day. We are in way too much of a rush these days. We don’t take the time to enjoy a healthy, relaxed start to the day. Instead, we run. Immediately, when you do this, your brain is wired into panic and adrenaline pumping mode. This is not only not healthy but it is not the way that anyone should want to begin any day of the week.

So take your time. Stretch, yawn, clear your mind. Mediate. Do some yoga. Put on the coffee. Brush your teeth. Take your time. You are up early so you have more than enough of it to start your day nice and easy.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”16925″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Once into a routine, things will be easy

When you first change the time at which you wake, you will be grumpy. But as you get into a realistic and comfortable routine, you’ll notice some change in your mood. Having more time in your day can mean having more time for yourself, something we all severely lack these days. You might also find that you can set your alarm for a time even earlier than your new routine, and still comfortably start your day.

What is most important is that you have quality sleep, every night. When you are sleeping well, you won’t mind waking up a bit earlier. But if night after night is tiresome and restless, you will be less inclined to follow your new routine. Buying a new bed can help make your nights more pleasant and the best place to buy beds in South Africa is from The Mattress Warehouse.

You don’t have to tell the world that you are now a morning person because of your fabulous change of routine. Perhaps not letting people know you are up early will prevent them from thinking they can bombard you with their questions, emails and generally overly happy selves the moment you get to work. Your change in routine should be something that you do for you; to improve your life and make your days feel a little longer.

So keep at it and let it be your secret to happier, more fulfilling days.
