As you know, August is Women’s Month in South Africa. And so The Mattress Warehouse decided to celebrate our brave mothers, sisters and daughters by sharing some of our best bedroom ideas for women of all ages with you.
Before we dive straight into how to decorate women’s bedrooms for different age groups, we first want to set out the basic rules for bedroom design. When it comes to decorating, there are a couple of factors that can make or break a ladies’ bedroom:
Our bedrooms are where we find peace and rest. Therefore it is always better to have soft, soothing colours that we can easily fall asleep to. On the other hand, you also want a colour scheme that energises you in the mornings.
But isn’t that contradictory? How can a colour be both soothing and energising at the same time?
Well, let’s take the bedroom below as an example: The soft whites and pinks of the walls and bedding soothe the senses, while at the same time the mustard yellow headset and the directional flight of the birds give a sense of urgency.
If you want to know more about bedroom colours, go and read about it in our post on bedroom decor ideas for 2020.
The main feature in any bedroom is… You guessed it. The bed!
So it’s crucial to make sure that your bed fits in the room. We are serious ladies, sometimes your bed is just too big for space you cram it into. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that there is at least 1 meter between your bed and the wall, closet and so on.
However, your bed can also be too small… If that is the case, some tasteful extras are in order. Like a stylish bedside pedestal to go with the colour scheme. Or maybe a headboard to anchor the bed. And if there is space, why not both? Furthermore, adding a plant to your bedroom can add a wonderful effect!
Look at how tastefully this room is laid out, with its interesting hat collection, doubling as a headboard, and the green leather chair that goes with the plants. And don’t forget the light colours and large windows.
This might sound a bit strange, but a beautiful ladies’ bedroom should have different layers of light. Have a soft, adjustable lamp on the bedside pedestal to complement the adjustable overhead light. Moreover, having soft inner curtains over your windows can add another layer of protection against harsh light in your beautiful bedroom.
We can all agree that lighting has a profound influence on the atmosphere in a room. So make sure the light in your bedroom is soothing and can be adjusted for all occasions.
Spacing ties in with how and where you put your bedroom furniture. The golden rule is to keep a clear path between where you get out of bed and the bathroom.
If you don’t have enough space in the bedroom, try putting some neat boxes under the bed. Alternatively, you can put some staggered shelving above the head of your bed to create a stylish storage space. How is that for two birds with one stone?
Now that you have a general idea of how to go about decorating your bedroom, ladies, let’s take a look at various bedroom ideas for women!
Not always an easy task. The teen years can be quite disruptive, as bodies and ideas start changing. One teen might want to keep her room all pink and girly, while another one might want to go all-out dark and dreary.
Let’s face it. There is no single box that we can put our teenage ladies into.
So, instead of putting them in a box, we came up with a whole list of ideas that might assist in creating tasteful bedrooms for teens. Here are some visuals to help get your creative juices running:
Give them a feature wall
It can be a multi-colour wall like the one above, or your teen girl can add shelves, paintings, photographs or whatever tickles her fancy to the wall.
Let them to choose a new duvet cover and a set of sheets
Sure, it might sound a bit cheap but didn’t someone once say a change is as good as a holiday? (And all of us can do with a holiday after how 2020 turned out…)
Install an artsy clothes rack and/or mirror
Sometimes simple solutions, like adding one eccentric piece of furniture to a room can make a world of difference.
Let them choose a theme for their bedroom
It doesn’t have to be a pink theme. However, if your little princess wants to go pink, why not indulge her?
Add splashes of bright colour
One dash of daring colour against a soft, white backdrop gives a teenage room so much character! Add some polka-dot bedding and you have turned an everyday room into something exciting for your daughter.
You are done with school and starting a new career. You’ve moved up in life! It’s likely you moved out of the house and are no longer subject to your parents’ house rules.
And in this stage of your life, you do not only dress to impress, but you are constantly on the lookout for new and trending ways to improve your look and living space (while keeping the budget in mind). Well, look no further! Because we are going to show you some great bedroom ideas for young career women.
Keep is simple, yet elegant
These are soft colours, but you can be more bold. You do you, ladies! And this look is quite easily achievable with a small tin of paint, a thumb tack and a piece of string. No breaking the bank for this one.
Get an interesting mirror to spice up your space
Floor mirrors are all the rage in shoe shops. So why not add one to your beautiful women’s bedroom? You like shoes, right? And you like to fit them on and see how they go with your outfit, don’t you? In that case, adding a stylish floor mirror to your room might be just what you (and your room) needs.
Add ambient lighting
By this time, you most likely know what you want. You have created your own unique style and you are confident in your ability to create a home. However, you might feel that it is time for a change.
Here are some beautiful ladies bedroom ideas for you.
Create a spacious, open plan bedroom
Your kids are out of the house, so you don’t have to be so conscious about compartmentalizing your space anymore. So why not indulge and create a wide open bedroom where you can be and do whatever you want?
Show off your success
There is nothing wrong with treating yourself, ladies. After leading a successful life, you deserve it!
Create a well-lit reading nook
If you have space in your bedroom, why not? Reading is soothing and to do so by natural light even more so…
We hope that you got some fabulous bedroom ideas for Women’s Month, ladies! And remember, if you need any assistance in picking out that perfect new duvet cover or bedside pedestal, we are just a click away.
