21/11/2024 Congratulations to Joanne Coetzee from Randburg for winning the Sealy Posturepedic Ponto Firm Queen bed valued at R12599!
The most common type of bunk bed, also known as the standard or twin-over-twin bunk, is where the two beds and mattresses are stacked one above the other. These very simple and practical beds. They’re available in solid wood or steel. The bed with trundle option is a popular feature for a kid’s bedroom.
A variation on the twin over twin is the twin over full bunk which has a bigger mattress at the bottom and a smaller mattress at the top. These beds are not as commonly available, and they are not going to fit into just any space, meaning a bigger bedroom will be needed for this bed.
If you are looking for this style of bed, The Mattress Warehouse has the Tri-Bed. Made from beautiful solid wood, it is going to be a stunning addition to any bedroom. The bed includes a longer ladder than the common bunk bed, and it is best to ask if it can be separated later on.
A variation on the twin bunk bed is a type of double bunk bed where the lower bed has a bigger mattress with a smaller mattress at the top. These beds are not as commonly available and buyers need to be aware that this type of bunk bed will need a bit more bedroom space. The Mattress Warehouse sells this type of bunk as a tri-bunk (also known as the triple bunk bed), like this Charlene Tri-Bunk Bed. The bed includes a longer ladder than the common bunk bed.
The L-shaped bunk bed is an interesting twist on the standard stacked style. Instead of the conventional design, which stacks the beds as one on top of the other so that the beds are facing the same way, the L-shaped design has the beds at two different angles. The bottom bed is designed to sit in an L shape to the top bed. This is often called the bunk bed with a desk because it creates an ideal space for a workstation at the bottom.
Like the double bunk bed, this design style also makes room for a larger bed or mattress at the bottom thus creating a L-shaped double bunk. The L-shaped design adds an interesting look to a bedroom. This layout is one of the best ideas for bunk beds for kids.
Finally, there is the loft bed, designed with the top bed higher than the usual bunk bed. This bed does not necessarily have to accommodate two sleepers. Its purpose is to maximise space. By elevating the bed, it allows the bedroom to be space to be utilised with other bedroom furniture, like a desk or wardrobe. A loft bed is ideal when you want to create more space. And you can always place a second bed underneath the loft. It all depends on your design aesthetic.
We offer quality wooden bunk beds and steel bunk beds. The bunk bed frame should be strong enough to support the sleepers safely so we don’t compromise on material quality. Reliable wood types for a bunk bed include pinewood (like Oregon and Chestnut) and solid hardwood. Pinewood is the more affordable option of the two and is also lighter than solid hardwood making it easier to move.
When buying a bunk bed or other bedroom furniture, you should keep the following in mind:
